An animal's eyes have the power to speak a great language.. Martin Buber
Have you ever looked into the eyes of an animal and felt like you were being sucked right in to their soul? People always comment on the eyes in my paintings of animals, whether it's a dog, cat or even a sheep, the eyes always stand out. When painting pet portraits this is extremely important - after all it's not just any pet I'm painting, it's your dog or cat. The expression has to be just right, as the pet parent you must be able to see your furry friend staring back at you from the painting!
When I began painting agricultural animals this thought process followed through. My paintings of cows, sheep, pigs and horses are not merely animal paintings, they are portraits. They are meant to pull the viewer in, feel them stare back at you challenging you to think of them as more than just a food source.
“When I look into the eyes of an animal, I do not see an animal. I see a living being. I see a friend. I feel a soul.” A.D. Williams..
