Chinoiserie Mural

Here Fishy Fishy......

Koi Fish Detail

Koi Fish Detail

When Silvana D'addazio asked if I would paint a Chinoiserie themed mural on the mantle wall of her Toronto home I jumped at the chance! She was inspired by a favorite Fromental wallpaper, the images from which I adapted to work above and around her living room mantle. Below is a bit of the story of Silvana's home featured in Canadian House and Home Jan 2014

It was a great opportunity to do something quiet and subtle, with an almost ethereal watercolour effect. I added  some gilding to the koi fish scales, the room faces west and  in the afternoon sun they glow beautifully....

Sadly murals appear to have fallen somewhat out of vogue with the relatively paired down decorating style of the day (I've never been one to subscribe to the "less is more" mode of thought) This however is the perfect way to include a hand painted detail without fear of overwhelming the space.

Next week I'll be talking about The "More" rather than the "Less" when it comes to murals..

Stay Tuned.....
